Marítimo Women

The defeat that sent Marítimo out of the 2021–22 Taça de Portugal Feminina, at the hands of Sporting CP, sits alongside two other quarter-final exits, in 2020–21 and 2022–23, as the closest the women's side of Club Sport Marítimo has come to a run at the national cup.

The section was set up in 2014, more than a century after the men's club it belongs to, and it wears the same crest, the same green and red, and the same nicknames — the Green-and-Reds, the Lions. Telma Encarnação came through that setup from 2015, before going on to score Portugal's first-ever goal at a Women's World Cup finals in 2023, a line that runs from a Funchal youth team to a moment in the national side's history.

Home games are played at Campo do Adelino Rodrigues, known locally as Campo do Liceu. Derby games against C.D. Nacional carry the name Derby da Madeira, a fixture that once also involved C.F. União before that club dissolved in 2021.

It is that 2014 starting point — a women's team built onto a men's club already over a hundred years old — that the promotion of 2018 and the cup runs since have grown out of.
