Minsk

Women's football in Minsk existed under university colours before it had a name of its own — the side began life in September 2008 as Minskanka-BGPU, tied to the pedagogical university, and only took the identity of FC Minsk in 2011. Within a few years that change of name carried real weight: from 2013 the club won the Belarusian Women's Championship seven years running, a run that ended only when title after title had already put the domestic game out of reach for anyone else. It returned to the top in 2024. Along the way came eight Cups and seven Super Cups, and under Yuri Maleev the side went through entire seasons, in 2017 and 2018, without losing a match domestically.

That dominance carried FC Minsk into the UEFA Women's Champions League most seasons, and three times — in 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18 — the club reached the round of 16, further than any spell of the university side that preceded it ever imagined. The squad has leaned on Belarusian internationals such as Ekaterina Kovalchuk and Anna Kozyupa alongside imports brought in for continental football, among them the Nigerian forward Henriette Akaba.

Home matches are played at the Traktor Stadium, which holds around 5,600, in front of support that follows a team known simply as the Red-Blues. What tests that dominance now is not a European draw but the derby across the city: Dinamo Minsk Women are the one side able to turn a routine fixture into the match Minsk actually has to win.
