Monterrey come into this Liga MX season as one of the division's fixed points.

None of it was assured at the start. The club was registered on 12 July 1945, founded by a group of industrial businessmen led by Ramón Cárdenas Coronado, Enrique Ayala Medina and Paul C. Probert, and made its top-flight debut on 19 August that year. Less than a month later, on 14 September 1945, the team bus caught fire after a crash in San Juan de los Lagos. Player Enrique Lizano died, and others were left with serious injuries. The club finished bottom of the table and withdrew from the league in 1946, not returning to the top division until 1959, after winning promotion out of the second tier. It has not gone down since.

The Estadio Tecnológico gave way in 2015 to the Estadio BBVA, built to hold 53,500 and now the setting for the blue-and-white striped shirts that earned the club its nickname, Rayados.
