Nový Jičín has never put a senior team into the Extraliga, yet in 2019 two of its own, Tomáš Havlásek and Kryštof Černoch, reached the semi-finals of the U17 European Championship, finishing fourth with the national side. The volleyball section dates to 1925, run within the same organisation as the town's handball players, and it has built its record almost entirely from the ground up: junior and cadet squads, not the first team, hold most of what the club calls its honours.
The women's older-girls side won the national championship in 1992 and took the Czech Cup twice, in 1998 and 2002; the cadet girls were champions in 1982 and 1996. The senior women's team plays in the 2. liga, the second tier, and won it four times between 2014 and 2018. The senior men sit in the 2. národní liga.
What the club has produced instead is players who left for bigger shirts. Iva Plchotová captained the Czech national team after coming through at Nový Jičín and went on to play in the Extraliga, in Poland and in Italy; Jarmila Bajerová won silver at a European Championship before spending her career in the Extraliga and in Germany. Jana Tůmová, Marie Urbanová and several others left for senior volleyball elsewhere. On the men's side, Jakub Karásek left for Ostrava and won the national title there in 2013 before playing in the Champions League.
The closest thing to a rivalry is with Volejbal Ostrava, whose matches against Nový Jičín in the regional leagues and the 2. národní liga are the ones supporters describe as heated, without either side ever quite calling it a derby.
