Queanbeyan City

The double came in 2024: first place through the regular season, then the final itself. The Lions had been close often enough — premiers in 1973, 1978, 1988, 1993 and 1995.

The trophy that came first, though, was won before the club carried this name. In 1969 the side lifted the Capital Football Federation Cup. That same year it finished second in the ACT First Division, and the decider was never completed: Queanbeyan led Olympic 2-1 when a fight broke out and the match was abandoned. They finished second again in 1970.

Home is High Street Oval, at 21 High Street in Queanbeyan East. The club plays in the Capital Territory NPL, which for most of its history was the Capital Premier League, and its regular opponents come from across the border in Canberra — Canberra FC, Canberra Croatia, Canberra White Eagles, Canberra Olympic. None of those fixtures carries a formal derby name.

Red, yellow and black are the club colours, and the nickname is The Lions. Both come from the same place. The club was registered with the ACT football federation on 17 March 1966 as Queanbeyan Makedonia, founded by Done Dimov, Angelo Hatzelis and Victor Tsakalos. It became Queanbeyan Macedonia in 1969 — the Federation Cup year — and took the name Queanbeyan City in 1973.
