SCR Altach

Two Cup finals, twenty years apart, and neither one won. In 2014/15 they went down 0:1 to Rapid Wien; in 2025/26 they led ground for a while against LASK before losing 2:4 after extra time.

The club traces back to 26 December 1929, when Turnerbund Altach, a gymnastics society in the Vorarlberg town of Altach, added a football section. The team folded in 1937 and stayed dormant until 1 March 1946, when it returned as Sportvereinigung Altach. Football broke away as its own body on 5 March 1949, taking the name Sportclub Rheindorf Altach — a name that still points back to Rheindorf, the district the club grew out of, and gives the team its nickname, the Rheindörfler. The professional side was hived off into its own company, SCR Altach Spielbetriebs GmbH, on 1 July 2016.

They play in black and white at the CASHPOINT Arena, a ground that holds 8,500, only 3,000 of them seated — a small-town number by Austrian top-flight standards, and one that has never stopped the club reaching a Cup final. It hasn't only been the men doing the reaching, either: the women's side, playing as SPG SCR Altach/FFC Vorderland, made its own Cup final in 2022/23 and lost it to SKN St. Pölten.

Ask around Altach who the club's name travels furthest with, and it isn't a player from either final. It's the town itself — a place of a few thousand people that keeps sending a team to Austria's top flight, and keeps coming within one match of the trophy that has eluded it since 1929.
