Shirak

Gyumri sits in Armenia's northwest, close enough to the border that the city's identity has always leaned on endurance. Shirak carries the province's name and, on matchdays at the Gyumri stadium, its colours: orange and black, drawn from the tone of the city's own stone buildings.

The club dates to 1958, and its nickname, the Black Panthers, points further back still — to the panther on the Bagratuni dynasty's banner, the historic symbol of Shirak province. Locally the name is Սև հովազներ.

Four league titles came in the 1990s and one more in 2013. The Cup followed twice, in 2012 and 2017.

The stadium itself has been rebuilt in stages; a 2019 renovation left it holding 4,500 seats.
