Spišská Nová Ves sits in the Spiš region of eastern Slovakia, and for well over a century the town's football has run through one club.

Local pride runs closer to the surface in a plainer way: the nickname "Spišiaci" simply means the people of Spiš. The team plays in red and white, and its ground, Štadión MFK, holds around 5,500.

The clearest modern marker came in 2022–23, when Spišská Nová Ves won the 3. Liga (East) and went up to the second tier. Cup football has occasionally lifted the club into sharper focus too: a run to the Round of 16 in 2024–25 ended against ŠK Slovan Bratislava.

Closer to home, the rivalries matter more than any cup tie against Bratislava.
