DIVS Uralochka
Yekaterinburg, Russia
The elliptical dome of the DIVS Uralochka hangs over Yekaterinburg. The building is not a stadium in the traditional sense; it is an indoor arena.
The complex was built in two distinct phases. The main arena opened in 2003, but the real transformation happened later. A major capital renovation between 2021 and 2022 cost 280 million rubles. The work replaced seating, upgraded lighting, and freshened the interior facades. The purpose was clear: the venue reopened in October 2022 just in time for the 2023 Summer Universiade. The earlier attempt to host the 2020 Winter Universiade had failed, but this time the timing was right.
The primary tenant is the women’s volleyball club Uralochka-NTMK. They do not always play here; occasionally they travel to Nizhny Tagil for matches at SK Metallurg-Forum. But when they are in Yekaterinburg, they play in the hall with the elliptical roof. The official technical capacity is listed as 4,281, though marketing figures often round this up to 5,000.
Other events spill out from the doors. Blue Man Group performed here in late 2018 and early 2019, and the band Nochnye Snaypery played a concert in 2023. The floor is indoor parquet, maintained for the fast-paced game of volleyball, but it has seen basketball and mini-football as well.
