Lokomotiv Izumrud

Loko-Izumrud reached the top of the Russian Superliga only once, in 1999, and that season sits between four runner-up finishes across 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2001 — a run that made Yekaterinburg's second club a fixture at the sharp end of the table without quite settling there. The same three years around the turn of the century brought the Russian Cup as well, won in 1999, 2000 and 2001, with a further final lost in 2002 and a bronze in the league in 2003. Europe gave the club a silver medal in the CEV Cup in 2001, plus bronze finishes in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1999 and the Challenge Cup in 2004.

The team's roots go back to a railway workers' side raised on the Sverdlovsk railway junction in 1945, but the club as it competed through those years traces to a rebuilding in January 1974 around the Turbomotorny Zavod works, and it played under the names Uralenergomash and UEM–Izumrud before settling on Loko-Izumrud.

Home games are played at the DIVS Uralochka, a 5,000-seat hall on Yeryomina Street that the club shares its city with volleyball's other tradition, Uralochka itself. The emerald in the name points to the green the team wears on court.

Since the 2004 Challenge Cup bronze, the trophies have stopped arriving, and the Superliga title from 1999 remains the only championship Loko-Izumrud has to show for a career built mostly on finishing second and third.
