Tyumen

Volleyball in Tyumen grew out of the city's oil and gas university, where the club started life in 2004 under the name Neftegaz-Univer, tied to the students and staff of Tyumen State Oil and Gas University. The regional government took the project over in 2008, setting up the club as a standing institution rather than a university side, and within a year the men's team had shed its old name for the plain one it carries now: Tyumen.

The club has spent its life in the Vysshaya Liga A, the second tier of Russian volleyball, and has topped it three times — in 2012/13, 2022/23 and 2025/26. Only the first of those wins was followed by promotion to the Superliga. The two later titles were turned down for financial reasons. In the Russian Cup, the furthest Tyumen has reached is the last 16, back in 2023.

Matches are played at the Akademiya Sporta complex on Spasskaya Street, in the Tyumenskaya Sloboda microdistrict, home since 2020 after years at the Zdorovye sports complex. No fixture on the calendar carries the weight of a derby; the club has no fixed rival to speak of.

The club's women's section, playing under the same name, gave Russian volleyball Natalia Chumakova.
