CSKA Moscow

SK Medina-Athletic seats 700 and it sits in the Ramenskoye settlement outside the city rather than in Moscow itself. The club has played there since returning to competition.

What came back in 2021, under businessman Roman Gusev, was a name that had gone silent in 2009, when the original club, running on Red Army funding since 1946, folded for lack of money. Between those two dates lies the actual history: a men's section built inside the Military Institute of Foreign Languages that went on to win the Soviet Championship thirty-three times, the last of them in 1991, months before the union that had sponsored it stopped existing. Thirteen European Champions League titles came in the same stretch, the run stretching from 1960 to 1991 with barely a gap in the eighties.

Independence suited the club less. Three Russian Championships followed in 1994, 1995 and 1996, then nothing at that level again. The team that plays out of Ramenskoye now competes in the Higher League A, rebuilding a name rather than continuing a run.

The rivalry with Dynamo Moscow, still called the Brotherly Derby, predates all of this and outlasted the club's own collapse.
