Colonia secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Cerro in the Segunda División's second phase, stage 13, on Saturday evening. The result keeps both sides level on points but separates them in the table, with Colonia moving clear of the Uruguayan outfit.
The match hung in balance for most of ninety minutes. A penalty opportunity came at the half-hour mark but was missed, and that moment would define the evening. Cerro pressed for an equaliser throughout, but the home side held firm until the eighty-seventh minute when the decisive goal finally arrived.
Cerro enjoyed more of the ball, controlling 56 per cent of possession against Colonia's 44. The visitors registered three shots on target and seven off target across 117 attacks, while Colonia managed just one shot on target from thirteen attempts on goal. Five yellow cards were shown to the home side compared to two for their opponents.
Both teams arrived on identical records of two wins, three draws and one loss from six games. The win puts Colonia five points clear of Cerro in seventh place, though the gap in the table remains marginal at this early stage of the season.
