Caleb Williams leaves Bears game with hamstring injury
Bears QB Caleb Williams hurt his hamstring against the Vikings; an MRI on Monday will show if it's a Grade 1 strain and whether he misses the Eagles game.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams left the game against the Minnesota Vikings (3:9) in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury. He was hurt on a run near the end zone, was helped off the field and was then taken to the locker room.
Head coach Ben Johnson said Williams was in good spirits after the game. He had first feared a knee injury. Williams was later seen in the locker room walking without crutches.
According to NBC Sports, the Bears hope the examination will show a Grade 1 hamstring strain, the mildest degree of the injury, with minimal tears of the muscle fibres. Williams has an MRI on Monday. Even with that diagnosis, he may miss the Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Johnson said:
"I'm even glad it's not the knee. That was my first thought, but a hamstring injury can also turn out to be quite serious. Tomorrow we'll find out how bad it is and act on that."
If Williams is out, Tyson Bagent takes the starting spot. He replaced Williams at the end of the Minnesota game. In the 2023 season Bagent started four games and won two.
