About the player
Agustín Canobbio arrived at Fluminense in January 2025 as the club's most expensive signing at the time, a transfer reported at around $6.9 million. He started out at Centro Atlético Fénix, making his professional debut there in 2016, before a switch to Peñarol in January 2018 brought his first major honours: the Uruguayan Primera División and the Supercopa Uruguaya that year. A loan spell back at Fénix followed in 2020, but it was his return to Peñarol in 2021 that defined his career in Uruguay — a standout campaign that brought a second league title and saw him named Uruguayan Player of the Year, with a place in that season's Team of the Year.
In March 2022 he moved to Athletico Paranaense in Brazil, where he added back-to-back Campeonato Paranaense titles in 2023 and 2024 before Fluminense came calling.
At international level, Canobbio was part of the Uruguay side that won the South American U-20 Championship in 2017 and has since earned senior caps, scoring against Ecuador in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in September 2023. He was included in the Uruguay squad that took bronze at the 2024 Copa América, coming on as a substitute in the semi-final against Colombia.
