In 2024, ABB won the Copa Simón Bolívar and took its place in Bolivia's top flight. The club had spent most of its life a division or two below the clubs that fill Ла-Пас's fixture list, tucked into neighbouring El Alto.

Those letters used to stand for something else. The yellow and blue on the shirts still trace back to that origin: they are Brazil's colours, left over from a name the club no longer carries.

Mollinedo had been a player at Bolívar before injury ended his career, and he turned the end of one football life into the start of another, building ABB from the ground up and later taking on the presidency of the La Paz Football Association. His co-founder, David Condori, has stayed close to the club in the decades since; in 2024, with the Primera División promotion in sight, it was Condori who took over as caretaker coach.

Home games are played at the Estadio Municipal de El Alto, a ground holding around 24,000, sitting at altitude in a city that gives visiting teams little comfort. ABB's own supporters still call the club La Academia, the name that stuck once the bank was gone.
