Alianza

The founders were labourers, a group of workers in San Salvador who put together a football side in 1958 and called it Atlético La Constancia. Alianza Fútbol Club has carried that borrowed name since, along with the all-white kit that earned it the nickname Los Albos.

El Salvador has no separate national cup, so the league crown stands as the measure of a season, and by that measure Alianza has finished on top more often than any run of near-misses in the 1970s and a lost final to Atlético Marte in 1985 would suggest.

None of it means much on derby day, when Alianza faces CD FAS in the Clásico Salvadoreño. Those matches are played at the Estadio Cuscatlán, listed at 53,400 seats by the venue's own operator though FIFA counts closer to 45,000 for international fixtures — a stadium known locally as El Coloso de Monserrat.
