Atl. Valladolid

David Pisonero played for the old Club Balonmano Valladolid before it collapsed under debt in 2014, and when a group of local businessmen and enthusiasts rebuilt the club within weeks, buying the second-division spot held by Club Balonmano Pozoblanco, taking over in 2017–18 and staying long enough to be renewed through the 2028–2029 season. The new entity, registered under Juan Carlos Sánchez-Valencia before Mario Arranz took the presidency in July 2015, borrowed its blue and white from the city's football club and its home from the Polideportivo Huerta del Rey.

Promotion came quickly. Under coach Nacho González, backed by the Recoletas hospital group's sponsorship, the club won the División de Honor Plata in 2015–16 with 28 wins from 30 matches, going up to Liga ASOBAL for 2016–17 and finishing eighth on debut. Álvaro Martínez became the club's record scorer in the top flight with 538 goals and was named MVP of the 2023 Copa del Rey final phase before he, too, moved on in 2024–25.

None of it has yet brought a trophy home. The old Valladolid side won the Copa Asobal in 2002 against Barcelona, the Copa del Rey twice, and the Recopa de Europa in 2009 on away goals after a tie level at 54–54 with HSG Nordhorn — a run the refounded club has not matched, reaching the 2026 Copa del Rey final only to lose to Barcelona again.

What still gets the ground loud is Abanca Ademar León. The two clubs are the only ones from Castile and León with any real pedigree in Spanish handball, and their meetings, fought out too in the Copa Castilla y León, carry the weight of a regional clásico that neither side treats as just another fixture.
