Bangor City 1876 plays in the lower tiers of Welsh football, still building a squad and a following from scratch while the city's older, more decorated name stays out of reach for now.

Supporters formed the club in 2019, through the Bangor City Supporters Association, after the finances of the original Bangor City F.C. gave way; that club was wound up in 2025. The new side took the field as a phoenix club, carrying the 1876 founding date of its predecessor rather than its trophies. In December 2024 members voted to restore "City" to the name, and since 2025 the club has traded as Bangor City 1876 F.C.

Home matches are played at Bangor City Stadium on Holyhead Road, a ground known for years as Nantporth, opened on 24 January 2012 after construction began the previous August. Bangor City 1876 has used it since 2023. The kit keeps the old colours: blue shirts with a red V at the neck, white shorts and blue socks with red trim; away in red with blue shorts. The badge is the coat of arms of the City of Bangor.

The club's own honours list is still blank — it is too young for that — but the record it points back to belongs to the old club: eight Welsh Cups between 1889 and 2010, and three Cymru Premier titles, the last in 2011. For now the task is simpler: establish itself in the divisions below that level and start climbing back toward them.
