No fixture on the Mold Alexandra calendar carries the weight of the matches against Buckley Town or Flint Town United, the two clubs that share the same stretch of north-east Wales and the same pull for local players and supporters. A trip across the county for one of those games draws a crowd Alyn Park rarely sees otherwise, and bragging rights stay local for a year at a time.

The club itself grew out of a gap. Mold had fielded teams under other names since 1878, among them Mold Town and Mold Alyn Stars, but by 1929 those sides had folded, and Mold Alexandra formed to pick up where they had left off. Alyn Park has been home ever since, with 400 seats inside a ground that holds 3,000 at capacity.

The club took its heaviest blow early in its highest period. Admitted among the 20 founder members of the League of Wales in 1992, it was almost thrown out before a ball was kicked, because Alyn Park lacked stands and floodlights; sponsorship from Synthite and help from the local council got the ground passed. Three seasons later, in 1995, the team finished 19th and dropped out through financial strain, and it has not been back to the top flight since. The years that followed were spent shuttling between the Cymru Alliance and the Welsh National League, relegated and promoted in turn.

That long absence is what gives the 2021/22 season its weight. Mold Alexandra won the Ardal North West and, in the same campaign, lifted the FAW Trophy for the first time, beating Baglan Dragons 1-0 in the final. Danny Warren led the line in that run before later moving on to Airbus UK Broughton. Promotion to Cymru North followed, and by 2023/24 the club had climbed to fourth place, its best league finish since the 1995 relegation, adding the Welsh Blood Service National League Cup and Northern League Cup along the way.

Barry Owen took over as manager in May 2024, succeeding a management partnership that had run the club since 2016. One name on the teamsheet predates most of that history: defender Henry Nash, listed by Transfermarkt as the most loyal player Mold Alexandra has had.

Between the FAW Trophy and the two league cups, three trophies now sit in the cabinet from three different seasons in the past four years.
