Colwyn Bay

Colwyn Bay sits on the North Wales coast, and its football club has been part of the place since January 1881, when the earliest recorded match was played. Nearly a century and a half on, the club still calls itself the Seagulls.

Llanelian Road, up in Old Colwyn, has only been home since 1984. It did not stay settled for long. In 1992 the Football Association of Wales ordered the club to join the new League of Wales or stop playing in the country altogether; Colwyn Bay refused and spent three seasons playing home matches over the border in England, first at Northwich's Drill Field and then at Ellesmere Port, before a High Court ruling in 1995 found in the club's favour and let them come home.

The bigger reversal came later. Financial strain pushed the club out of the Welsh pyramid in 1984 and into the English non-league system. In 2019, shareholders voted to return to Wales, and the margin, 91,600 to 55,624, was not close. The gamble paid off: Colwyn Bay won the Cymru North title in 2023 and again in 2025.

Craig Lindfield, a Liverpool academy product who had played for Accrington Stanley, was central to both promotions and finished as the club's top scorer in 2024/25.
