CSKA Moscow

The Megasport Arena holds a little over 13,000 for basketball.

The team traces back to 1923, when it began life as the sports section of the Red Army. Between 1992 and 2000 it took the Russian Championship nine years running, then added eighteen more in a row from 2003 to 2019.

In the EuroLeague the club has been champion eight times. The gap between the early titles, won in the 1960s and early 1970s under the Soviet flag, and the run that started in 2006 is wide enough that the two eras barely resemble each other, yet both ended the same way: CSKA beating Maccabi Tel Aviv for the trophy in both 2006 and 2008. The 2016 final against Fenerbahçe went to overtime before CSKA came through 101–96.

The club calls Zenit Saint Petersburg its main rival, and the CSKA–Zenit derby carries more weight now than the league table alone would suggest. Every year CSKA raises a jersey to the rafters under the "Legends Under the Vaults" project, honouring players such as Vladimir Tkachenko. But no name from the modern era travels further than Andrei Kirilenko's, the forward who left Moscow for the NBA and came back a CSKA man all the same.
