Dren Vrhnika

Vrhnika sits along the Ljubljanica, on the edge of the Ljubljana Marsh, and for decades the town's football side carried the name of the trade that shaped it: when the local shoe factory IUV took over running the club, the team played as Usnjar, the leather-worker's name, and it was under that banner that the town had its best season, winning the 2. SNL in 1969. When the factory faded, the club went back to being NK Vrhnika.

The team traces itself to 1934, when a group of enthusiasts in the town put it together. Between 2017 and 2023 it operated under a different identity again, NK Dren Vrhnika, after merging with the Drenov Grič-Lesno Brdo sports society ŠD Dren; the merger was undone in the spring of 2023 and the club reverted to NK Vrhnika. The blue, black and gold of the kit are not decoration but local geography: the blue of the Ljubljanica, the black of the marsh's peat soil, and the gold a nod to the Jazon legend tied to the region.

They play at Športni park Vrhnika, which holds 1,000. The club has spent recent seasons working its way up from the lower rungs of Slovenian football, and it has done so twice in a row: champions of 3. SNL Zahod in 2024/25, then champions again in 2025/26. Rudar Trbovlje have been the team most on their minds in that climb — coach Jan Kragelj named them the direct rival for a league place in a 2021 interview — while meetings with ND Bistrica have carried an edge of their own, including a match in October 2024 that drew accusations of racist abuse from the stands.
