Triglav

For one season, the team that plays in Kranj was not officially itself. In 1996/97, after a merger with NK Naklo, it took the field as Triglav Naklo in Slovenia's second tier, and only in 1997, once the merger settled, was the club refounded and returned to the name Triglav Kranj.

That was not the first time the name had changed. The club began in 1920 as SK Korotan, then became SK Kranj in 1937. The postwar years brought two more shifts in quick succession — Storžič in 1945, Udarnik in 1947 — before it reverted to Korotan in 1949. It was under that name that the club won the Slovenian Republic League of Yugoslavia in 1950 and 1951, its earliest silverware. The name Triglav arrived in 1955 and has stuck, aside from a brief spell as Triglav Creina in 1994.

Since independence, the club's honours have mostly come from the second division rather than the top flight — 2.

Bojan Jokić, its former captain, went on to earn more than 100 caps for Slovenia, played at the 2010 World Cup and had spells at Villarreal and Nottingham Forest. Jan Vipotnik, who also came through the club, played at Euro 2024 before moving to Swansea City.

Home matches are played at the Stanko Mlakar Stadium, which holds 2,060.
