The 2025 edition of the Central Wales Challenge Cup went to Guilsfield for the third year running, a stretch that says something about where this Montgomeryshire side sits now: a club still winning the competitions in front of it, even after it stopped chasing the bigger ones. There was a spell, back in 2010–11, when the club held the Cymru Alliance League Cup, and the following season it went further still, reaching the quarter-final of the Welsh Cup by beating three top-flight sides — Airbus UK, Connah's Quay Nomads and Caernarfon Town — before Bangor City ended the run.

Guilsfield have not always needed a name to draw on. In the years before the club existed in its present form, men from the village turned out for whichever neighbouring team needed them, and the fields they eventually played on belonged to local farmers who took the rent in kind — a hand at harvest time rather than cash. Dan Barton built his career on that same modest footing: signed in 2011, he stayed long enough to score 127 goals in 244 appearances in the Welsh Premier League, a return few clubs at this level ever get from one player.

The ground the club plays at now, the Community Centre Ground, also known as Clos Mytton, holds 1,100 and grew up alongside the village itself, built in the 1960s as Guilsfield expanded. Nathan Leonard, son of former Shrewsbury Town defender Carlton Leonard, has been the constant through the recent years, playing for the club before taking charge of it, first in 2017–18 and again from 2020.

None of it traces back further than a single meeting on 6 August 1957, when a group of villagers led by Bill Laker decided the informal football Guilsfield had played since the 1930s deserved a club of its own.
