In 2020, the club that had spent two decades as Home United disappeared from Singapore's league tables overnight. Sea Limited had bought it, renamed it Lion City Sailors, and with that a name born inside the Ministry of Home Affairs was gone. Before that, the badge had already changed once: what started life in 1945 as the Police Sports Association became Police FC in 1996, then Home United a year later, once the club was widened to represent the Civil Defence Force and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority alongside the police.

That institutional identity shaped who they played. Warriors FC, formerly known as SAFFC and tied to the armed forces in the same way Home United was tied to the police, became their fixed opponent in what both sides called the Uniformed Derby.

Home United won the S.League twice, in 1999 and 2003. The 2019 Singapore Community Shield came near the very end, a last honour before the name itself was retired. They played in red and white and were known as The Protectors, fitting for a club built from uniformed services, and their grounds included Bishan Stadium, which holds just over 6,000.

Shahril Ishak is the name most associated with the club's years as Home United. He built his career there before the Lion City Sailors rebrand carried the shirt, the stadium and the trophies forward under a different flag.
