Two league titles came in the same year, 1925 — spring and autumn championships were contested separately then, and Lovćen took both. The Republic Cup told the same story for decades after: ten wins between 1950 and 2002. Since Montenegro's independence in 2006 the honours board is thinner, a second-tier title in 2007 and the Montenegrin Cup in 2014.
Lovćen carries the oldest founding date of any club in the country, formed on 20 June 1913 in Cetinje by two brothers, the painters Luka and Milo Milunović, with Luka taking on both the presidency and the captaincy. They named it for the mountain that stands over the town.
The team fell into the third tier for the first time in 2019/20, finishing second from bottom of the Second League, and needed until 2022/23 to win the South Zone and come back up. That promotion coincided with a new home. The old ground, Obilića Poljana, closed in 2017, and its replacement, Stadion Sveti Petar Cetinjski, seating 5,192, opened only in 2022–23.
