Its numbers depend on who is counting: the club lists an official capacity of 30,250, while civil defence surveys put the real figure closer to 23,581. Before settling there, San Martín spent its early years drifting between grounds — a patch known as la plaza de los burros from 1909, then the Gimnasio Sáenz Peña and the Gimnasio del Sport, before opening its first own stadium in 1925.

It carries two nicknames, Los Cirujas and El Santo.

Its national honours board holds one entry: the Copa de la República of 1944, a title the AFA only formally recognised in 2013. The 2007/08 Primera B Nacional title sent the club back into Argentina's top flight.
