Serra Macaense

Independente Esportes Clube Macaé had been playing under that name since 1992 when a new group of investors took it over in 2009 and refounded it as Serra Macaense. The first season under the new identity followed in 2010, and the FERJ recognises that November date, not the older one, as the club's foundation.

The predecessor's best result came in 2000, when Independente won the Campeonato Carioca Série C, then the state's third tier. Serra Macaense itself has yet to add a senior state title, though it climbed as far as Série B1 in 2016 before dropping straight back to Série B2 the following season, and it has picked up youth honours along the way, including the Sub-20 Taça Waldir Amaral in 2021.

Home games are played at the Moacyrzão, the popular name for the Estádio Cláudio Moacir de Azevedo, in a sky blue and black striped kit.

Serra Macaense went into the 2025 season back in Série B2, the fourth division of the Rio de Janeiro state championship.
