Young Lions

Squads arrive from Singapore Premier League sides for two years and go back once the uniform comes off.

The name has followed the sponsors more than the football: Courts backed the shirt from 2011, Garena from 2016, before it reverted to plain Young Lions FC in 2017. Only in 2023 did a foreign name appear on the team sheet for the first time in years, ending a run of exclusively local selection that had defined the project since its S.League entry in 2003.

What the club produces is careers, not silverware. Hariss Harun made his debut here in 2007 at sixteen, the youngest player in the league at the time, before building a national-team career elsewhere. Khairul Amri did the opposite — stayed long enough to become the club's own top scorer, with 49 goals nobody at Young Lions has since approached. Third place in the league, in 2004 and again in 2006, remains the high-water mark; the cup runs have stopped at semi-finals.

Matches against Hougang United carry an edge sharpened by the same loan pipeline running both ways, while games with Lion City Sailors get called a sibling rivalry in the club's own media — an odd label for a side with no fixed squad to call family from one year to the next.
