Zaglebie Lubin

The copper is the point. Zagłębie's orange and black, and the nickname the Coppers, come from the ore that KGHM Polska Miedź pulls out of the ground here; the mining company's name now sits in front of the club's own. The team that started in 1945 as a youth section attached to a workers' education body went through half a dozen names — Zawisza, Gwardia, Spójnia, Górnik — before settling on Zagłębie in 1966.

Two league titles, sixteen years apart. The first, in 1990–91, came out of a squad that had just watched Romuald Kujawa finish as the country's leading scorer the previous season; he captained the champions. The second arrived in 2006–07 and brought the Polish Super Cup with it a few months later.

The cup has been less kind. Three finals — 2004–05, 2005–06 and 2013–14 — and three defeats, the last of them a decade past.

Łukasz Piszczek is the name that travels furthest. He was a Zagłębie player from 2004 to 2007, and the club still gets introduced through him.
