Legia Warszawa

The name traces back to the trenches of the First World War. In March 1916, in Kostiuchnówka, a football side formed within the Polish Legions — soldiers organising a team amid the fighting on the Volhynian front. When the war ended, the club found its way to Warsaw, reactivated there on 14 March 1920 under a military banner. A 1922 merger with the Warsaw club Korona brought a change of colours and a new roster, and a year later the side settled on the name it still carries.

The club plays at the Stadion Wojska Polskiego, named for Marshal Józef Piłsudski, holding 31,103 after a reconstruction completed in 2011. White shirts, black shorts — though white socks crept in for the 2024/25 campaign.

Legia has won the Polish championship 16 times and lifted the Polish Cup 21 times, with the latest arriving in 2025. One title, from 1993, was later stripped from the club.

Robert Lewandowski passed through the academy before the 2005–2006 season. On the pitch, Lucjan Brychczy wore the shirt from 1954 to 1972. The rivalry with Polonia Warszawa, the Warsaw derby, has run since 1921.

All of it traces back to a team of soldiers, assembled under the Legions' name on the Volhynian front in 1916.
