About the player

Two days after Motor Lublin and Hervé Matthys parted by mutual consent on 11 July 2026, the centre-back signed for AIK on a contract running to 31 December 2028. He made 37 appearances for the club.

Matthys grew up in Bruges, spending six years in the youth system at Cercle Brugge and two at Club Brugge. His senior career began at Anderlecht in 2014, though he made no appearances for the club. A loan to Westerlo brought seven. It was in the Netherlands that his numbers grew: 33 games and a goal for FC Eindhoven in 2017–18, then 76 for Excelsior between 2018 and 2021. ADO Den Haag signed him in September 2021, and he played 32 times for them.

The longest stay of his career so far came at Beerschot, who agreed a deal with him on 10 April 2022. Over three years he made 69 appearances and scored three goals. He won promotion with the club to the Belgian Pro League for the 2023–24 season, and it was from Beerschot that he went to Lublin.

For Belgium he played at youth level: four caps at under-17, three at under-18, with one goal, and nine at under-19, with three goals.
