Mekelle Kenema

The title came in the 2018/19 season, decided on the final matchday, when Mekelle 70 Enderta beat Dire Dawa City 2-1 to take the Ethiopian Premier League.

The club started out in 2007 as Mekelle Kenema. Promotion to the Premier League in 2016/17 brought the current name, Mekelle 70 Enderta FC, tying the side to its home city and region.

The title opened the door to the CAF Champions League. In the 2019/20 preliminary round, Cano Sport Academy of Equatorial Guinea eliminated them on aggregate, 3-2, after a 1-1 draw at home and a 2-1 defeat away. A place in the following season's competition, against Al-Ahly Benghazi, went unplayed: the club withdrew because of the military intervention in Tigray.

In Mekelle itself, the club's derby is against Welwalo Adigrat University FC, the Tigray Derby.

Amanuel Gebremichael is the name attached to the championship season. He finished as the league's top scorer with 18 goals in 2018/19, and it was his goal that decided the final match against Dire Dawa City.
