Four finals, four wins: Singapore have never lost a decider at the AFF Championship. The first came in 1998, a single goal past Vietnam under Barry Whitbread. Three more followed over two-legged finals — Indonesia in 2004, Thailand in 2007 and again in 2012 — all of them under Radojko Avramović. Shahril Ishak captained the last of those sides and was named the tournament's best player.
The Lions came out of an association founded on 29 August 1892, one of the oldest in Asia, though the team's first official international waited until 22 May 1948 and a 1:0 win over China. FIFA membership followed in 1952, the AFC in 1954.
The defining fixture is Malaysia. Singapore played in the Malaysia Cup until 1994, when the association walked out over a dispute about gate revenue and started the S.League; the Causeway Derby is what remains of that argument.
Fandi Ahmad scored 55 goals in 101 matches and was the first Singaporean to play in Europe, at Groningen. The appearance record belongs to Hariss Harun, who debuted in 2007 at 16 and has 148 caps. Gavin Lee, appointed in November 2025, took the team to the 2027 Asian Cup — a competition Singapore last reached in 1984, as hosts, when they beat India and drew with Iran.
Home since 2014 is the National Stadium on Stadium Drive in Kallang, 55,000 for football, with the smaller Jalan Besar ActiveSG Stadium on Tyrwhitt Road, 6,500. The shirt is red throughout.
