Guilherme Arana

Guilherme Arana arrived at Fluminense with an Olympic gold medal and two Bola de Prata awards behind him, a résumé built almost entirely at Atlético Mineiro. It was there, after a loan spell in Bergamo produced only four appearances for Atalanta, that his career turned. Atlético Mineiro signed him permanently in mid-2021 once he met the performance clauses attached to the deal, and the timing could not have worked out better: that year he won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Copa do Brasil and earned a place in the South American Team of the Year.

Before any of that, Arana came through the Corinthians academy, lifting the under-20 Brazilian championship and the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior before making his senior debut for the club in a 4–3 win over Sport Recife. A move to Sevilla followed in December 2017, but it was the return to Brazilian football, first on loan and then permanently at Atlético Mineiro, that re-established him as one of the country's leading left-backs.

His form there earned a senior call-up to the Brazil national team, making his debut against Venezuela in World Cup qualifying. Injury cost him a place in the squad for the 2022 World Cup, though he was later included for the 2024 Copa América. At club level, the trophies kept coming in Belo Horizonte, with further Campeonato Mineiro titles and a Supercopa do Brasil added to his collection before he moved on to Fluminense.
