About the player
Marlon came through Criciúma before Fluminense signed him in 2017, with loan spells at Boavista and Trabzonspor before he returned to fight for a regular place. That patience paid off in 2022, when he won the Campeonato Carioca and the Taça Guanabara with Fluminense. Spells at Ankaragücü and then Cruzeiro followed, and it was in Cruzeiro colours that he produced one of the moments he is best remembered for: a decisive goal against Flamengo at the Maracanã in 2023, a performance that also earned him a place in that year's Cartola Team of the Year.
His move to Grêmio in April 2025 began as a loan from Cruzeiro, but a clause in the deal meant that once he reached 25 starts for the club, the transfer became permanent, a fee of around R$ 23 million confirming how quickly he had made himself indispensable at the back. Since then he has added the Recopa Gaúcha in 2025 and the Campeonato Gaúcho in 2026 to his honours, and in February 2026 he struck a winning long-range effort against Atlético Mineiro that stood out even in a defender's game built more on discipline than distance shooting.
Not everything has gone smoothly: he was suspended for two matches in October 2025 after criticising the CBF, and a severe ankle fracture against Vitória in March 2026 interrupted his season. At international level, his experience is limited to four caps for Brazil's under-20 side in 2016, when he helped the team win the Quadrangular International Tournament in Chile; a senior call-up has not followed.
