Mateo Antoni

Mateo Antoni broke into professional football through Nacional's youth system, and it was a loan spell away from Montevideo that first put his name in lights: sent to Liverpool FC in 2023, he became a regular starter as the club won the Uruguayan Primera División title that year, scoring against Defensor Sporting along the way. That same year he lifted the FIFA U-20 World Cup with Uruguay, wearing the number 3 shirt in the 1-0 final win over Italy; accounts differ on exactly how much of that match he played, though he is credited by some with the assist for the winning goal. He went on to make around 13-14 appearances for the Uruguay U-20 side, scoring once, but has not yet been capped at senior level.

Back at Nacional, he settled into the first team across the 2023-2025 seasons, making 15 league appearances, scoring in 2024 and featuring in the Copa Libertadores. In January 2025 he moved to Argentinos Juniors for a fee of US$2.2 million, though the transfer later became a source of dispute: in August 2026 FIFA ruled in Nacional's favour after Argentinos fell behind on the agreed instalments. His time in Argentina was brief, restricted to two league appearances before he was sent to Alianza Lima on loan for the 2026 season, with an option to buy attached.

At Alianza Lima he has established himself as a fixture at the back, wearing number 3 and reaching 23 appearances in the Liga 1 alongside two in the Copa Libertadores, without troubling the scoresheet so far.
