About the player
Iago Amaral Borduchi came through the youth ranks at Internacional, joining the academy in 2013 and making his senior debut in 2017. He went on to make 62 league appearances for the club before Augsburg signed him in June 2019 for a reported fee of €6.5 million, with add-ons that could take the total to €8 million; Internacional kept 60% of the sale rights.
At Augsburg he became an established figure in the Bundesliga, making 101 league appearances and scoring five goals before his contract ran out in May 2024. He then returned to Brazil on a free transfer to join Bahia, where he has since won the Copa do Nordeste in 2025 and the Campeonato Baiano in both 2025 and 2026. In August 2026 he moved to São Paulo FC on loan from Bahia until the end of that year.
Iago has not been capped by the senior Brazil side, but he was a regular at youth level, representing Brazil under-20 at the 2016 Suwon JS Cup, where the side finished runners-up. He later earned seven caps for the under-23 team between 2019 and 2020, a spell that included winning the 2019 Toulon Tournament and playing at the 2020 South American U-23 Championship. Earlier in his career, he also won the Super Copa Gaúcha with Internacional in 2016.
