Barnaul

Barnaul sits in Altai Krai, and for ten years its basketball had a name of its own: Altaibasket. In 2020 that club was disbanded. It owed money to the Russian Basketball Federation, and it could no longer legally use the name. The city's basketball did not stop with it. On July 30, 2020, a new club was presented at a press conference in the Altai Krai Ministry of Sports, set up as a fresh legal entity to take the old one's place.

Not everything was left behind. The mascot came across, a wolf called Di. Navy blue and white are the colours, with grey kept for the wolf.

The Minister of Sports, Alexey Perfiliev, announced the strategy and the budget, and Vitaly Mantler runs the club as executive director. Evgeny Gorev, who played in the Altaibasket years and later became head coach, is the figure who links the two clubs. The club also keeps drawing on the regional sports school, SShOR "AltayBasket". Maxim Ogaryov and Alexander Petenyov came through it and then moved on to bigger clubs.

The first season, 2020/21, did not need a settling-in period. Barnaul won Super League 2, the First Division, and went up to Super League 1, the second tier of Russian basketball. Home games are played at the SK Pobeda sports complex. The away fixture that carries the most weight is the "Siberian Derby" against Novosibirsk.

The new club needed one season to win the league it started in.
