Chalons-Reims

Betclic Élite is not where Champagne Basket plays these days. The club dropped out of the top flight in 2022, reaching the playoff final in 2022–23 before losing to Chalon-sur-Saône.

The name on the shirt only dates to September 2020, when the club shed the old Champagne Châlons-Reims Basket label for its current identity, Champagne Basket, with a graphic overhaul meant to speak for the whole region rather than either city alone. That duality was there from the start: the club came together on 17 June 2010 out of two clubs in financial and sporting trouble, ESPE Basket Châlons-en-Champagne and Reims Champagne Basket, both relegated to Nationale 1 in 2008. The merger carried over the promotion to Pro B that Reims Champagne Basket had just earned, and the new club took the pitch under a shared banner its predecessors had failed to hold onto alone.

Games now belong to Reims Arena, which seats 5,500, after years of shuttling between Salle René Tys in Reims and the Palais des Sports Pierre de Coubertin in Châlons-en-Champagne. Between 2014 and 2022, Champagne Basket held a place in the French top division, a run that began with a wild-card call-up when the league expanded and peaked twice at 12th, in 2014–15 and again in 2020–21. Mark Payne played a part in the first of those seasons, named to the Pro A Best Five in 2014–15.

Older silverware belongs to the clubs that no longer exist under their own names: ESPE lifted the Coupe de France in 1991, the same year it won the National 2 title. Against Étoile de Charleville-Mézières, the fixture still carries a name of its own — the Champagne derby.
