ASA

The "Derby d'Alsace" against Strasbourg IG carries the name, though ASA's older grudge runs along the Zorn river, where BC Gries-Oberhoffen and BC Souffelweyersheim used to meet as rivals.

That merger happened in April 2021, folding five local associations — Gries-Oberhoffen, Souffelweyersheim, BC Nord Alsace, Weyersheim and Walbourg-Eschbach — into a single structure. Behind that came decades of separate history: Souffelweyersheim's basketball section dates to 1945, and Gries-Oberhoffen itself was already a product of an earlier merger, in 1988, between Cercle Saint-Jacques Gries and Oberhoffen.

Each of those clubs had already done something worth remembering before they combined. Gries-Oberhoffen won the NM2 title in 2015-2016 and followed it with the NM1 championship the next season. Souffelweyersheim, for its part, had reached the Pro B semi-finals back in 2013. One name threads through that period: Léo Westermann, who came through the youth ranks at Gries-Oberhoffen before his career took him into the French national team, and later returned to the club as a mentor.

ASA plays across two grounds shared between the towns that built it, Salle des Sept Arpents in Gries and Espace Sport La Forêt in Souffelweyersheim, in the bordeaux and white colours it inherited from its predecessors. The current side has kept pace with that history rather than living off it: in 2024-2025 it reached the Pro B playoff semi-finals against JA Vichy-Clermont, and went as far as the last eight of the Coupe de France.

The larger hall at Souffelweyersheim holds 1,450.
