Nancy SLUC

Nancy sits in Lorraine, and its basketball has always been argued out against the neighbours: Metz in the Derby Lorrain, between the region's two big cities, and Strasbourg in the Derby de l'Est. The club's name is the city's own: Stade Lorrain Université Club, with a university in it. Its supporters know it as Les Couguars, a nickname taken up in the early 1990s.

The club began in 1967 and spent its first decades in the lower divisions. The step up came in 1993–94, when it won the Pro B title and reached Pro A for the first time. It then stayed in the top flight until relegation in 2017.

The 2002 Korać Cup is the result that carried the club beyond France. It was the last edition of the competition. Coached by Sylvain Lautié, Nancy beat Lokomotiv Rostov in the final. They won the first leg 98–72 at home and lost the return 95–74 in Russia, so they went through 172–167 on aggregate. Vincent Masingue and Cyril Julian were among the players in that side.

Domestically the peak came under Jean-Luc Monschau, who coached both league titles, in 2007–08 and 2010–11. Victor Samnick played in both title-winning squads. The French Super Cup followed each title, in 2008 and 2011. After the drop in 2017, Nancy won Pro B again in 2021–22 and went back up in 2022.

Home games are played at the Palais des sports Jean-Weille, which seats 6,027.
