Saint Quentin

The Coupe de France in 1987 was won by beating Montpellier PSC 102–86 after an earlier final loss to OS Hyères two years before. What followed took decades to repeat: promotion to the top flight in 1988, a fifth-place finish in that first season, and a run in the FIBA Korać Cup in 1991 that included a win over Panathinaikos. Then came 1993, when financial trouble dropped Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball all the way to Nationale 4, the sixth tier, a fall from which the club spent years working its way back.

The rebuild came in stages rather than a straight line: Pro B again by 2001, an NM1 title in 2012 followed by another relegation, then the NM1 play-offs won in 2019 to force a way back up. The 2022–23 season finally closed the loop, with the Pro B championship sending the club into the top division for the first time in 31 years and taking it into the FIBA Champions League by 2024–25. A sporting relegation from the 2025–26 play-offs looked like it would end that spell, until Monaco's financial exclusion from the league opened a place back up for the following season.

Saint-Quentin grew out of a 1973 merger between two local sides, Amicale Jumentier and Union sportive des Cheminots, and still plays in white and blue at the Palais des Sports Pierre Ratte. The derby against ESSM Le Portel carries its own edge, and Gravelines-Dunkerque is the name supporters reach for when they talk about a proper rival.

No player is tied to the place quite like Rudy Gobert, who came through the youth section, JSC Saint-Quentin, between 2003 and 2007 before his NBA career, and who still returns each year to run a camp there.
