Antarès Arena is configured for 6,035 spectators at basketball games. The Lions play there in orange, specifically the shade called tango, with grey and white as the other colours.

The club began as the Goulou Club and became the Sporting Club Moderne (SCM). Under the name SCM Le Mans it won its first three French championships, in 1977–78, 1978–79 and 1981–82. On 6 September 1993 the professional section split from the amateur body and took the name Le Mans Sarthe Basket (MSB). Its first title under that name came in 2005–06, after a wait of 24 years since the last one as SCM. A fifth followed in 2017–18.

The Coupe de France is the club's oldest honour. The cup has been won three times since: 2003–04, 2008–09 and 2015–16. The Leaders Cup, formerly the Semaine des As, has been won in 2005–06, 2008–09, 2013–14 and 2024–25. Two of those, 2005–06 and 2008–09, fell in seasons when the club also won another trophy.

Nicolas Batum is the best-known player to have come through Le Mans. Mickaël Gelabale and the American JD Jackson are also associated with the club. The nearest rival is Cholet Basket, and their meetings are billed as the Derby des Pays de la Loire.
