Chalon/Saone

Élan Chalon returned to Pro A in 2023, beating Champagne Basket in the promotion playoff final after two seasons spent in Pro B.

That earlier run stretched from 2009 to 2017. Chalon won the Pro A title in 2011–12, beating Le Mans, then took a second in 2016–17 against Strasbourg, and added two Coupe de France wins and a Semaine des As along the way. Runner-up in the FIBA Saporta Cup in 2001, in the FIBA EuroChallenge in 2012, and in the FIBA Europe Cup in 2017. A EuroLeague season followed the 2012 title, and for that campaign Le Colisée's capacity was pushed to 5,000; it has since settled back at 4,948.

The club has built a reputation for turning young players into NBA ones. Thabo Sefolosha came through Chalon between 2002 and 2005 before becoming the first player developed there to reach the NBA; his number 9 was retired in March 2024. Clint Capela started his professional career at the club a decade later, in 2012.

Founded in 1955 from the merger of Association Sportive Chalonnaise and Élan de Saint-Jean des Vignes, the club did not turn fully professional until 1994.

Chalon's derby is with JDA Dijon, the two Burgundy clubs meeting in what locals call the Derby Bourguignon.
