Karaman FK filled that gap, though not under its current name — for most of its existence it played local amateur and Professional Football League football as Karaman Belediyespor, only becoming Karaman FK in February 2022.
In the 2022–23 season Karaman FK beat Alanya Kestelspor 2–1 in the TFF 3. Lig play-off final, sending the club into the TFF 2. Lig for the first time since it was founded in 1992. The newly built Yeni Karaman Stadyumu opened in August 2023 with room for 15,000.
The step up did not sit easily. Across three seasons in the second tier, Karaman FK ran into disputes with investors and struggled to cover the running costs of the new stadium, and the financial strain eventually caught up with results: the club went back down to the TFF 3. Lig at the end of the 2025–26 season.
A national cup run to match the 2023 promotion is still missing from the club's record.
