For a while the team that mattered most to Kharkivski Sokoly was the one across town. BC Politekhnik was the local opponent the club met in the top flight. Then Politekhnik left the top division, and the Falcons were the city's basketball club without a neighbour to measure themselves against.

The Sokoly were created in 2017 to revive a team from the Kharkiv Higher Aviation Engineering Technical School. That side won five Ukrainian Soviet republic championships between 1945 and 1950 and took bronze at the USSR Armed Forces Championship in 1952. The link to aviation has held: the club is still tied to the Kharkiv National University of Air Force named after Ivan Kozhedub, and the falcon on the badge follows from it.

The modern club reached the Superleague quickly. It finished 9th in 2019–20 and 10th a year later, when Ihor Chumakov was the best Ukrainian scorer in the league. In 2021–22 it finished 5th, its best result there, before the season was suspended because of the war. Vladyslav Cheverdyn, who captained the side, has made more appearances than anyone in the club's history.

By 2024–25 the Falcons were playing in the Higher League, the second tier, and they left it as its strongest team. Dmytro Martynov was named the league's most valuable player. In the Ukrainian Cup the team reached the Final Four and lost to Rivne-OSHVSM. In the Higher League playoff final it beat Niko-Basket, and that win sent the club back to the Superleague.
