Rizal's provincial basketball program didn't begin with the name it carries now. When the franchise entered the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League for the 2018–2019 season, the organisation went with Rizal Crusaders, having turned down "Rizal Ankle Breakers" for having no real connection to the province. A year later, ahead of the 2019–2020 season, the team rebranded as the Rizal Golden Coolers.

They play out of the Ynares Center Montalban, though the team has also turned out at the Ynares Center in Antipolo and at One Arena in Cainta when needed. Navy blue, gold and white have stayed the club colours through the rebrand.

The Golden Coolers built their roster around homegrown talent, with Jerie Pingoy and John Apacible coming up through the province's own pipeline rather than a formal academy, since the club leans on the MPBL's homegrown player rule instead. Former PBA players have filled out the squad alongside them, among them Jolo Mendoza and Billy Robles.

The closest the club has come to a national title was the Division Semifinals in 2022, where they beat the Sarangani Marlins before falling to the Batangas City Embassy Chill. Under current head coach Don Dulay, they returned to the playoffs in both 2024 and 2025, building a rivalry with the Quezon Huskers and the Caloocan Batang Kankaloo along the way.

An MPBL national championship is still the one thing missing from the Golden Coolers' history.
