Abra Weavers

Thirty-six games without a loss is the kind of streak that gets checked twice before anyone repeats it. The Abra Weavers ran theirs through the whole of the 2025 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League season, finishing the regular schedule at 28–1, then swept every playoff series in front of them on the way to a National Title over the Quezon Huskers, closing it out with an overtime win in Game 3. Dave Ildefonso, a former PBA draft pick, was named Finals MVP for a team that a year earlier had been nobody's idea of a contender.

That earlier version of the club finished 7th in the North Division at 18–10 and went out in the division quarter-finals — a debut season, nothing more, for a franchise announced in February 2024 by then-La Paz Mayor Joseph Bernos as one of two expansion sides alongside the Pangasinan Heatwaves. The name followed a few weeks later, drawn from Abra's tradition of inabel weaving rather than from any existing club identity. Games in Bangued are still often framed against the Heatwaves, the only other team that entered the league the same year.

Home matches are played on the University of Abra campus, backed by the Solid North Partylist under Abra Governor JB Bernos. The 2026 signings of UAAP names JD Cagulangan and Jake Figueroa, and the launch of the club's own D-League for local players, point toward building depth rather than relying on a single title run. The Weavers were also picked as the first MPBL club to enter the East Asia Super League, for the 2026–27 season.

What the Weavers have not yet done is defend anything. One championship, one season removed from a quarter-final exit, leaves the harder question — whether the run was a peak or a starting point — still open.
